Philanthropist Shardaben Mehta dies at 93 Ahmedabad | Ahmedabad News โ€“ Times of India

Ahmedabad: Philanthropist Shardaben Mehtathe wife of ONU Mehta, founder of Torrent Group, breathed his last early Monday morning. Shardaben is survived by her four children: Sudhir Mehta, Samir Mehta, Meena and Nayana. This 93-year-old woman was an advocate for girls' education.
In an era marked by social stigma against girls' education, Shardaben defied norms by ensuring the education of her two daughters, despite facing severe financial crises in the family during their early years. An important milestone in her philanthropic journey was the creation of the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre.
Shardaben contributed generously to social causes, particularly in children's education and healthcare. She played a vital role in supporting infrastructure development in government-run primary schools and construction of Shardashish schools in Chappi and Memdapur in north Gujarat as well as in Ahmedabad.
Shardaben actively organized regular medical check-ups for children and played a key role in setting up a 150-bed children's hospital.TNN
