There are signs that congestion is easing ahead of the Christmas season in Asia's largest ports. This could be a welcome step for key commercial gateways into the US, which are still struggling with the influx of imports.
Total traffic in Shanghai-Ningbo decreased 0.2% from the previous week and the number of ships from Hong Kong-Shenzhen fell 10.4%. Singapore, Asia's third-largest shopping center, saw a 14.7% weekly drop, as a visible build-up from early November seemed to have largely cleared.
However, along the Pacific, boat queues remained high in Los Angeles and Long Beach, California. Congestion levels in neighboring ports increased 6.7% compared to the previous week. As of early Friday morning, at least 75 container ships were waiting for a docking space to unload after politicians scoured ports two days ago, touting a 32% drop in the number of containers on docks for more than nine days.
