Project Gigabit network build contract โ€“ Nottinghamshire and West Lincolnshire

Building Digital UK (BDUK) has carried out significant market engagement in the region to identify potential areas of government intervention to deploy gigabit capable broadband.

Following a transparent, fair and robust procurement process, BDUK awarded provider Connexin a ยฃ58 million contract to provide around 34,300 hard-to-reach premises in Nottinghamshire and West Lincolnshire with access to gigabit-capable broadband. The contract was signed in January 2024.

BDUK, Nottinghamshire County Council and Lincolnshire County Council will work closely with the supplier to ensure that construction of the network begins as quickly as possible, once the supplier has completed its detailed plans for this construction. A amount of preparatory work is required to reach the facility (e.g., digging trenches, laying conduit, installing fiber) before a service can be accessed. This varies by geography and provider. The first facilities under this contract are expected to have access to gigabit-capable broadband in 2025. Once the gigabit-capable network is built, residents and businesses will be able to request a connection from a broadband service provider. wide to benefit from faster speeds. .

Below is a map of the areas that will be updated in the Nottinghamshire and West Lincolnshire awarded contract.

Please note that the facilities to be accessed through the contract are subject to change after detailed planning by the supplier or due to technical reasons during the term of the contract.

Further details on the facilities that will be upgraded as part of this network construction contract will be available on this page in due course.

If your facility is not currently within the planned construction contract, this may be due to one of the following reasons:

  • There is currently Gigabit compatible infrastructure in your area
  • Broadband network providers have told us as part of our Open Market Review and Public review process that they plan to contact you as part of their commercial construction plans. This may include work planned as part of existing voucher projects through the Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme
  • Their facilities are outside the scope of this project due to the cost or difficulty of reaching them with gigabit-capable infrastructure. the government is conducting tests use satellites to improve the connectivity of premises in this category after a ask for proof that has happened

This contract is part of a wider strategy for Project Gigabit, with other local and regional procurements to build gigabit-capable infrastructure planned and underway across the UK. A list of the contracts awarded for the Gigabit Project can be consulted. seen here.

Under Project Gigabit, the government is also providing up to ยฃ210 million in voucher funding as immediate help for people experiencing slow broadband speeds in rural areas. You can find out if you are entitled to a rural bonus in the Gigabit Broadband Voucher Program Website.
