Prosecutors say thereโ€™s no need for a second trial of FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried

NEW YORK (AP) โ€” A second trial of FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried is not necessary on charges not included in the cryptocurrency fraud case presented to a jury that convicted him in November, prosecutors told a judge on Friday.

Prosecutors told U.S. District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan in a letter that evidence in a second trial would duplicate evidence already shown to the jury. They also said he would ignore the โ€œstrong public interest in a prompt resolutionโ€ of the case, particularly because victims would not benefit from confiscation or restitution orders if sentencing is delayed.

They said the judge may consider evidence that would be used in a second trial when he convicts Bankman-Fried on March 28 of defrauding clients and investors of at least $10 billion.

Bankman-Fried, 31, who has been jailed for several weeks before his trial, was found guilty in early November on seven counts, including wire fraud, wire fraud conspiracy and three counts of conspiracy. He could face decades in prison.
