Others include Aleksandr Zharov, CEO of Gazprom-Media, Alexey Nikolov, managing director of RT, and Sputnik international broadcast director Anton Anisimov.

Addressing state media organizations directly, including Novosti, which owns RT, the government added that following Ofcom's decision to revoke RT's broadcast license, the sanctions will ensure the channel cannot find its way back to the US. UK televisions.

Colonel General Mikhail Mizintsev, nicknamed “the butcher of Mariupol” due to his alleged brutal military tactics in Ukraineincluding the destruction of a maternity hospital, is also among the 14 new additions to the sanctions list.

The Foreign Ministry added that Mizintsev, the head of the National Defense Command and Control Center, where Russian military operations are controlled, is known for using "reprehensible tactics," including bombing civilian centers in Aleppo, Syria.

"Putin's war against Ukraine is based on a torrent of lies," the foreign secretary said. “Britain has helped lead the world in exposing Kremlin disinformation, and this latest batch of sanctions hits the shameless propagandists pushing Putin's fake news and narratives.

“We will go ahead with more sanctions to increase the pressure on Russia and make sure that Putin loses in Ukraine. Nothing and no one is off the table."

Nadine Dorries, the culture secretary, also said: “Putin's propaganda machine has been working in overdrive to spread misinformation and distract attention from his barbaric actions in Ukraine.

“These sanctions will target those who are complicit in covering up the actions of the Russian state. We will not hesitate to take further action against people and organizations that are trying to mislead people about this misguided war."
