San Antonio Airport Breaks Passenger Records for One Year

Three new direct releases in June.


SAN ANTONIO (May 31, 2024) โ€” As San Antonio International Airport (SAT) has broken passenger records for 12 consecutive months since May 2023, three new nonstop routes are launching. They include one international one, Torreรณn, Mexico, along with two domestic ones, Burbank and Philadelphia.

Here are the release dates and airlines:

  • June 1: Viva Airobus to Torreรณn (Tuesdays and Saturdays)
  • June 4: Southwest Airlines to Burbank (daily)
  • June 5: American Airlines to Philadelphia (daily)

"These new destinations are important to both our business and leisure travelers," said Jesรบs H. Saenz, Jr., Director of Airports, City of San Antonio Aviation Department. โ€œTorreรณn (TRC) is the fifth Mexican city in the SAT to which Viva Aerobus, Mexico's ultra-low-cost airline, now flies. Additionally, SAT is one of only two US cities with direct service to TRC. We are also excited for our travelers to visit Philadelphia, the birthplace of the United States. Burbank is also another great option for those who want to visit the popular Los Angeles region and the West Coast, especially during the summer.โ€

Here is a breakdown of recent passenger statistics for April 2024:

  • 12th consecutive record-breaking month for the SAT
  • An increase of 7 percent in passengers compared to April 2023
  • April with the busiest in the history of the SAT (911,469 passengers)

โ€œMore people are flying than ever before and we are constantly working to add even more destinations to meet that demand,โ€ said Jacob Tyler, director of air services development for the city of San Antonio Department of Aviation. "April 2024 was the first time we exceeded 900,000 passengers during the month of April."

Airlines continue to add capacity to the SAT. Airlines with the biggest increases in year-over-year service include:

  • Spiritual airlines
  • Alaska Airlines
  • Volaris
  • Delta Airlines
  • Long live the Aerobรบs
  • american airlines
  • Southwest Airlines
