SBF subpoena is โ€˜definitely on the table,โ€™ says Rep. Maxine Waters

US House Financial Services Committee Chair Maxine Waters said a subpoena is "definitely on the table" for former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried, who was asked to testify at a hearing on December 13 investigating the collapse of FTX.

In a December 8 tweet, Waters said "lies are getting around" after a report CNBC's suggested that it does not plan to subpoena Bankman-Fried to testify on December 13.

The report claimed that Waters informed a group of Democrats that he wanted the Committee to convince Bankman-Fried to testify voluntarily.

Waters had first requested Sam Bankman-Fried to appear at the December 13 hearing on December 3 through a mail On twitter.

Despite appearing in multiple media interviews Speaking of FTX, Bankman-Fried stated on December 4 that will not appear before the Committee until he is "finished learning and reviewing what happened" and "not sure" if that will happen in time for the hearing.

Citing his appearances in the media, Waters has previously pushed back in the excuse of the founders of FTX, saying on December 5 that the information it has is "sufficient for testimony".

"It is imperative that you attend our hearing," Waters added, saying the Committee was "willing to schedule continued hearings if there is more information to share at a later date."

This is a developing story and more information will be added as it becomes available.
