Six more Pinoys victimized by cryptocurrency syndicate arrive from Laos

Six more Filipinos have arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) after escaping from their employers in Laos, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced on Sunday, April 9.

Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco said they were the latest batch of human trafficking victims to be repatriated in recent months from various countries in Southeast Asia.

Tansingco said the six Filipinos were recruited through job postings on social media and promised high salaries and bonuses. They left the country separately for Thailand to work as online chat support representatives.

Arriving in Bangkok, they were taken to nearby Laos and forced to work as love con men targeting Asians to invest in a non-existent syndicate company.

The victims claimed that they were sold three times from one company to another before they managed to contact the Philippine Embassy through online communication.

โ€œThis transnational crime of human trafficking has become alarming and I advised all our compatriots eager to find employment abroad to be more discerning and discriminatory,โ€ the BI chief said.
