SKIMS PG resident bags ‘Torrent Young Scholar’ award

Srinagar, December 27: Dr. Tahir Bashir Dar, postgraduate resident of the Department of General and Minimally Invasive Surgery, SKIMS, has received the prestigious 'Torrent Young Scholar' (ASI-TYSA) award, recognizing him as the best resident in General. Surgery nationwide.
Achieving the first position at the 83rd Annual National Conference, 'ASICON', organized by the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI) at Vishakapatnam from December 13 to 16, Dr. Tahir's achievement distinguished him among the most of 8,000 attending surgeons.
The four-day event featured poster presentations and free scientific papers by over 2,500 young surgeons, while Dr Tahir emerged as the top candidate among twelve residents selected from across the country after rigorous evaluation.
He was honored with the ASI-Torrent Young Scholar Award for the year 2023, accompanied by a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh.
SKIMS PRO said ASI also sponsored him for fully funded travel and the opportunity to undergo operative surgical training at an International Center of Excellence in the near future.
Dr. Sajay Kumar Jain, President, ASI, and other dignitaries congratulated the Department of General and Minimally Invasive Surgery at SKIMS for achieving this milestone.
Another resident, Dr. Jan Mubashir, postgraduate resident in General Surgery, won 1st prize for Best Poster Presentation and 2nd prize in the Free Work Presentation category.
