Cause of the disappearance of Soap2Day

Soap2Day is one of the main torrent sites which garnered tens of millions in monthly traffic and has been the go-to site for many torrent lovers for a decade. While many competitors are being eliminated, Soap2Day stayed afloat with a solid infrastructure, clean user interface, and great content.

But all this came to an end in the middle of last month. when the Soap2Day operators announced the closure of the site without mentioning any reason. At the time, there were no reports of raids on Soap2Day's infrastructure or equipment, so the shutdown was not immediately attributed to legal action.

But now, critical documents cited by torrentfreak reveal the demise of the site due to a class action lawsuit by large entertainment companies, launched in May of this year. The class of plaintiffs included Bell Media, Netflix, Disney, Columbia, Universal, Warner, Paramount, Get Er Done Productions, and Spinner Productions, who brought legal action against soap2day in the Federal Court of Canada at the end of May.

They named the defending parties as Soap2Day and its alleged operator as 'John Perez'. And citing his copyright complaints, the court approved an injunction to shut down the site and disclosure orders for intermediaries, such as hosting providers, to share any identifiable information about Soap2Day's operators.

The plaintiffs claimed to have emailed the documents in question to Soap2Day's administrators, their domain registrar, and their hosting providers on June 12, prompting the team to shut down the site the next day. Although the court documents also asked the defendants to file their response by June 29, nothing happened.
