Tapestry Opera Just Announced Upcoming 2022 Season Lineup

Toronto-based Tapestry Opera has just announced the first half of the year's shows for 2022. They have three productions scheduled for January-June: Gould's Wall, Songbook XI, and RUR A Torrent of Light.

Gould's Wall is the story of an extraordinarily talented young musician who seeks perfection in her art. Your path to greatness? A magnificent wall, according to the tapestry opera website. Overflowing with the compulsion to reach the top, she invokes Canadian icon classical pianist Glenn Gould to guide her to dizzying heights, but the road is not easy. Each brick represents his art, his rigor and his challenge. Does he have the strength or will he slip and fall into the abyss? Libretist Lisa balkan evokes the rigorous journey of the young artist, weaving many of Gould's own words into the libretto, and acclaimed Canadian composer Current brian offers an exciting kinetic score. Gould's Wall is directed by multiple Dora Awards Philip Akinand features the Glenn Gould School New Music Ensemble. The show will run from January 12-16.

With only two submissions (March 11-12), Songbook XI is described as "an intimate evening of music and song." The eleventh installment of this basic tapestry will be headed by Jorell Williams, who will be joined by 12 of Canada's brightest and most emerging opera professionals.

The world premiere of RUR: A Torrent of Light runs from May 24 to June 5. Opera tapestry will tell the story follows the technology company RUR founded by the powerful couple Helena and Dom as it dominates the artificial intelligence software market and feeds the now ubiquitous androids that serve their human owners. As Dom continues to consolidate RUR's power in the marketplace, Helena's research leads to a breakthrough in artificial intelligence that will pit their visions for the future squarely against each other. They have reached a tipping point for humanity, but is humanity ready?

Inspired by Karel ฤŒapek's 1920 science fiction work, Rossum's Universal Robots (which introduced the word "robot" into the English language), composer By Nicole Lizรฉe and writer Nicolas Billon RUR A Torrent of Light faces one of the most fascinating questions of our generation.
