In a warning to all states and Union Territories (UTs), the Center made it clear that any tax or fee they impose on electricity generation is "illegal" and "unconstitutional." The Center ordered the states and UT to immediately remove any "water cessation" on hydroelectric projects. States may impose taxes on the use or sale of electricity in their jurisdiction.
