The Mt. Gox hack was one of the first major cryptocurrency hacks. In 2011, hackers made off with 25,000 Bitcoins valued at about $400,000. The exchange handled almost 70% of all Bitcoin transactions at the time.

In 2014, Mt. Gox experienced another attack that resulted in the loss of almost 650,000 Bitcoins from its customers and around 100,000 of its own. This was equivalent to approximately 7% of all bitcoins in circulation at the time, valued at around $473 million.

Tokyo-based Mt. Gox, previously the world's largest Bitcoin exchange, filed for bankruptcy in 2014, leaving its creditors 45 billion yen ($414 million) in debt. Recently, the exchange transferred almost 9 million dollars, possibly to pay his creditors.
