Six people have died and another fifteen have required hospitalization, in the fire at a nursing home in Moncada (Valencia), according to Emergencies of the Generalitat.
The fire occurred around 11:21 p.m. this Tuesday in the center, located on Calle Mayor in the Valencian municipality, and has forced the preventive eviction of 70 residents.
Four crews from the Firefighters Consortium, two SAMU and two Basic Life Support (SVB) have been mobilized to the site, according to sources, who have indicated that the fire has been controlled around 1:20 in the morning.
Fifteen people have been affected by smoke poisoning in the fire, three of them seriously, and have been transferred to the Clinical Hospital, Doctor Peset, Arnau de Vilanova, Manises Hospital and La Fe de Valรจncia. One of the injured, an 89-year-old woman, died during transfer to the Clinical Hospital.
Sources from the Firefighters Consortium have indicated that six firefighters from the Paterna, Pobla de Farnals, Burjassot and Torrent parks have traveled to the scene, as well as six command units, including the chief inspector of the Consortium and an officer .
According to the sources, when arriving at the residence the fire was already fully developed, affecting one wing of the building, and the firefighters immediately began the rescue and extinction of the fire.
Firefighters have rescued about twenty-five neighbors from inside the facilities, some of whom have had to be treated later by medical means.
With the collaboration of the Civil Guard, Local Police, Civil Protection and staff from the center itself, the rest of the residence has been evicted, up to 70 people. Four SAMUS (units from Campanar, General, Torrent and Manises) traveled to the scene; 5 Basic Life Supports and 4 ambulances (TNA).
three days of mourning
The City Council of Moncada (Valencia) has decreed three days of official mourning for the fire that occurred in the Residence for the Third Age in which five people died and another eleven were injured, three of them seriously.
In addition, he has asked for a minute of silence at 12 noon at the door of the City Hall, where the flags will fly at half-staff until Friday, according to an official statement issued by the Consistory.
