Charlatans' Tim burgess and ex New order member Peter hook they have spoken out about places receiving an unfair cut in merchandise sales, and Burgess has said that "the whole system needs to be addressed."
On Thursday (December 9), Burgess took to Twitter to show "great respect for those venues that don't take a percentage of a band's merchandise sales."
"It's not about Los Charlatanes," he explained. โThese are the bands that need merchandising income to survive. Some places take 25%. A quarter of the total sale price. Vinyl doesn't even have that mark to begin with. "

Burgess went on to say that the fault is not solely with the places. โIt is often a completely separate 'concession' company that the site is occupied with as part of a contract. A kid who has never heard of the band sells our stuff, while our merchandising person steps aside for the night. "
"It is necessary to address the whole system", wrote.
He went on to say that โmany of the managers and staff at the site are also unhappy with this. They don't even know what happens to the money when the concessionaire is paid โ.
Many artists and bands share their thoughts. Some places change their policy. It's about having the conversation ... https://t.co/JTXl4FTIWo

Burgess then tagged O2 and asked if they were aware of the settings. โHis name is attached to many of the places that do this. It would be great to know what they think about it, "and suggested that" maybe the bands need to ask for a percentage of the bar. "
Peter Hook then shared his thoughts on places that charge a commission on the band's product sales. "I have been fighting this for many years and I fully support a change in this practice, โhe began.
He went on to say that venues that charge a 25% commission on total everything sold make having merchandise for most bands "a total vanity project."
Some thoughts on places that charge a commission on the sales of band products ... sometimes up to 25%.
Well done @Tim_Burgess for starting this conversation. I have been battling this for many years and fully support a change in this practice. pic.twitter.com/rMYZiPpjDW

He then accused some places of breaking the law, by failing to deduct VAT from the gross amount, before they took their share.
โI think it goes without saying that if the commission came from net profit rather than gross it would be much fairer. While bands obviously get a fee to play, the venue makes a profit on the bar, the cloakroom, and sometimes even the parking lot. Their faces when you ask for a piece of that is priceless. "
Peter Hook and the light have announced new programs in both Joy divisionThey are two albums in their entirety.
