The chief minister of state Yogi Adityanath on Sunday it inaugurated Phase 1 of the city gas distribution (CGD) in Gorakhpur, the firm said in a statement.

“As part of the event, the CM inaugurated the supply of piped natural gas (PNG) to the first set of 100 domestic connections and an industrial connection.

"He also dedicated the city gate station (CGS) and eight CNG stations from Torrent Gas, bringing the total number of operating Torrent CNG stations in Gorakhpur GA (geographic area) to 18, "he said.

Torrent Gas, the CGD utility of the diversified Torrent Group with group income of 21 billion rupees, has been authorized by the Oil and Natural Gas Regulatory Council (PNGRB) to establish and operate the CGD network and provide compressed natural gas (CNG) and PNG in 15 districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Gorakhpur.

The national PNG is reasonably priced and generates savings of up to 43 percent compared to LPG. It is a paradigm of convenience for homes due to multiple advantages such as reliability of supply, the absence of storage space, the absence of advance reservations or the fear of drying out. For industries, it is not only convenient and inexpensive, it also has a lower carbon footprint compared to other fossil fuels and is environmentally friendly.

Speaking on the occasion, Adityanath said: "The availability of PNG will bring great relief to the people of Gorakhpur in general and to housewives in particular because of the convenience and significant savings it offers. The availability of natural gas is likely to attract more industries in Gorakhpur bringing in new opportunities and development in the region. "

Jinal Mehta, Director of Torrent Gas, said: "Torrent Gas, with a presence in 15 districts of Uttar Pradesh, is committed to the overall development of the state and has planned an investment of Rs 3.3 billion for FY26. Of this total , almost 1.8 billion rupees will be spent in eastern Uttar Pradesh, including Gorakhpur. "
