Shah was the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Laboratorios Torrent SA de CV, a Mexican subsidiary of Ahmedabad-based Torrent Pharmaceuticals. Torrent Pharmaceuticals entered the Mexican market in 2010. Shah was posted in Mexico City since the last four years from 2019, officials said.

Shah was killed on August 19 when he was returning from the Mexico City International Airport (also known as Benito Juarez International Airport) in a car. The bike-borne attackers robbed Shah of the USD 10,000 that he was carrying and later shot him several times inside the car. Another passenger travelling in the car with Ketan escaped the attack.
