Torrent Pharma executive killed in Mexico | Ahmedabad News – Times of India

AHMEDABAD: A 38-year-old executive, Ketan Shah, working for Ahmedabad-based Torrent Pharmaceuticals Limited, was killed by armed assailants after they robbed him of $10,000 (Rs 8.30 lakh approx.) in Mexico City.
Shah held the position of finance director at Laboratorios Torrent SA de CV, a subsidiary of Torrent Pharma. The incident occurred on Simon Bolivar Street in Mexico City on Saturday.
Sources said that despite the swift arrival of local emergency services, Shah displayed no signs of life. Shah’s father, who was also present and suffered injuries in the attack, is now in stable condition.
Shah had been associated with Torrent Pharma for seven years and had been on assignment in Mexico City since May 2019. He leaves behind a wife and two children. A source privy to the development told TOI: “Shah had withdrawn $10,000 from an airport foreign exchange centre and was on his way home when armed assailants followed him on two motorcycles. They fired at Shah’s car seven times, leading to this unfortunate incident.”
Mexican authorities have initiated a probe while Torrent Group officials are working to ensure the safe return of Shah’s family to India.
“In the extremely regrettable and tragic death of an Indian national shot by unknown assailants in Mexico City, the Embassy is in constant touch with the law enforcement agencies to apprehend the culprits at the soonest and give justice to the family of the victim,” states a post by the Indian Embassy in Mexico, on a microblogging platform.
