Ahmedabad: Torrent Power Limited (TPL) has tried to impose a regulatory charge for two years on electricity consumers in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Surat to recover their past fees. The private sector company, however, has not proposed any increase in the energy base rate for fiscal year 2022-23.
TPL has proposed to impose a regulatory charge of 22 paisa per unit on its consumers in the Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar supply areas. For Surat, the regulatory charge sought is 17 paisa per unit, affirm the company's requests for the determination of the electricity rate for fiscal year 2022-23, which were submitted to the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission ( GERC) on Monday.
The company has demanded to collect this regulatory levy for a period of two years to recover its past quotas. The company has estimated a revenue shortfall of Rs 349.18 crore for Ahmedabad and Rs 108.74 crore for the Surat supply area. These income gaps have been mainly due to the poor recovery in recent years. Therefore, the company has requested permission from the state energy regulator to impose a regulatory charge starting on April 1, 2022 for a period of two years with the necessary cost adjustment due to the postponement of recovery, the distributor added. of energy.
If approved, TPL consumers will have to shell out more for the energy they consume. "While any increase in the energy base rate remains in effect until further review, the demand for regulatory charge by the company is for a limited period of two years, after which it is discontinued," explained the people in the energy tariff.
Torrent Power has also proposed a 'Green Fee' at the rate of 50 paisa per unit in its license areas. It is worth mentioning here that the four power distribution companies affiliated with the state-owned Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) have refrained from increasing electricity rates for the 2022-23 fiscal year.
