Torrent on the track hires a wide range of portable tools, equipment and lighting for the UK railway industry. One of their largest machines is the Rosenqvist CD400 stapler. This machine combines speed, precision, ease of use and efficiency in one powerful unit. The CD400s have proven so popular that more machines have been ordered and will be delivered over the summer.

The CD400 is designed to clip and release Pandrol Fastclips. A rail clip is the metal component that secures the rail to the sleeper. It guarantees that the rail maintains its correct position and width, preventing it from slipping or moving, even when it is subjected to the high loads and vibrations of passing trains.

Without rail clips, the railway system would be unsafe, inefficient and unreliable, so efficient machines for attaching and removing clips from the rail structure are vital.

The CD400 is controlled by a single operator, via an easy-to-use handheld remote control connected to the cutter. The operator can control all basic functions from the phone, including speed, trimming and unclipping.

The stapling capacity is approximately 30 sleepers per minute and the machine can simultaneously install 4 staples per cycle. Precision is ensured by innovative proximity sensors and guide rollers that center the machine for optimal precision. The machine can also lift sleepers up to a height of 350 mm. The CD400SP is powered by a high-performance Hatz diesel engine providing excellent fuel economy, low emissions and exceptional reliability.

The CD400SP has numerous safety features. Walk-behind operation eliminates HAVs and the quieter motor aids concentration and comfort. The noise production of the machine at a distance of 2 meters is 75 dB at idle and 83 dB at maximum acceleration. Braking to a complete stop is achieved with just 300mm at normal speed and 1900mm in high-speed mode.

The CD400SP is manufactured by Sweden-based Rosenqvist, which has been manufacturing railway equipment for over 25 years. Torrent Trackside COO Carl Abraitis commented: "Rosenqvist is an industry-leading brand and its determination to build smarter machinery that increases productivity, reduces ownership time and improves safety goes hand in hand with our business model and values at Torrent Trackside".

The CD400SP measures approximately 3m long by 2m wide and weighs just under 3 tonnes. The machine is delivered flatbed from one of 9 Torrent Trackside depots across the UK. Torrent Trackside usually supplies operators for the machine when necessary.

Torrent Trackside is part of the successful Vp plc group and has been supplying railway plant for over 30 years and will continue to do so in the future through a winning combination of innovative products, sound investment and excellent service.
