100mm of rain was expected to fall in some parts of the west of the country. It was expected to rise to 200mm in high altitude areas such as Snowdonia in Wales. The average rainfall in Snowdonia is between 75mm and 98mm during the months of September and October.

And sadly, the worst is not yet over for Brits, as the remnants of Hurricane Nigel, currently in the North Atlantic, are expected to cause strong winds in the UK.

The Met Office issued a warning in England, Wales and Scotland on Thursday morning, warning that "properties may be flooded" due to the weather.

Category 1 Hurricane Nigel is expected to last through the weekend.
