Torrents gushing out of Tirumala hills bring cheers

TIRUPATI: The incessant rains that hit the Tirumala hills in recent days have brought cheers to pilgrims and locals. Streams gushing from the rocks on the hill provide a visual feast for viewers. Torrents like Malavadigundam and Kapilatheertham rush down from the rocks of the hill, delighting those traveling the first ring roads and ghat. Many in private vehicles took a break at Malavadigundam to capture the torrent that tumbled through the Seshachalam mountain ranges.

On the other hand, the uninterrupted rains that recently fell have added billions of gallons of water to dams such as Akasaganga, Gogarbham, Papavinasanam, Kumaradhara and Pasupudhara. According to sources, the water from the Tirumala reservoirs will be sufficient for the needs of pilgrims and locals for the next 1.5-1.8 years.

Official sources said that the water level reached 93 percent in all dams - Kumaradhara (total capacity - 4,258.98 lakh gallons); Pasupudhara (1,287.51 lakh gallons), Akasaganga (685 lakh gallons), Gogarbham Dam (2,833 lakh gallons) and Papavinasam (5,240 lakh gallons), which is the largest source of water for Tirumala, which recorded a maximum of 165 mm of rainfall in two hours on Sunday. Tomorrow.

Meanwhile, as more rain is anticipated in the coming days, officials from Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) opened the floodgates of the Papavinasam and Gogarbham dams on Sunday and released water. The daily requirement of the temple city during the pre-Covid-19 times is estimated to be around 32 to 35 lakh gallons and on weekends at 35 to 40 lakh gallons of water.
