Torrents sweep away ten people – Pakistan Observer

At least 10 people were swept away by a torrent in the Awaran and Zhob areas of Balochistan as the Meteorological Department forecast more rain in the province on Sunday. The meteorological office forecast strong winds, thunder rain and hail in parts of Quetta, Musakhel, Ziarat, Kalat, Sibi, Nasirabad and Lasbela in the next 24 hours.

Earlier on Saturday, officials with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said eight members of a family were among 10 people swept away by torrents after heavy rains. PDMA officials said torrential rains, which began late Friday, caused flash flooding. They said eight family members, including three women, two children and three men, were on their way to Kalat from Awaran in a vehicle.

They were swept away when trying to cross a stream near Jhao. According to the PDMA, liens and Awaran administration staff attended the scene.—INP
