Twitter now displays stock and cryptocurrency prices directly in search results

in the middle of all the chaosTwitter implemented a useful feature that allows you to search for shares of listed companies and cryptocurrency prices.

To do this, users simply type the dollar sign followed by the corresponding ticker symbol, for example "$GOOG" or "$ETH" (minus the quotes), into the search bar and Twitter will display the current price. This also works without using the $ symbol in some cases, but is less consistent and doesn't always return stock or cryptocurrency prices as requested.

However, when it works, users will see a static image showing today's stock price and a chart with no X or Y axis information. So good luck figuring that out. Presumably, it's a price chart for that stock's most recent closing price, but it's not so clear.

But if someone wants to know more details about a stock or cryptocurrency, they can press the "View on Robinhood" button.

As an application researcher Jane Manchun Wong noted, the logo in the image indicates that Twitter gets the data from the Tradingview website. The social media company has not made it clear if it is forming any kind of business partnership with Robinhood or TradingView.

Twitter did not specify which symbols are included in the list of direct search results for stock prices. The company additional which in the coming weeks will refine the user experience and add better symbol support. For example, at the time of writing, stock prices for companies like Airbnb ($ABNB) and Zoom ($ZM) were not showing up in Twitter search.

Chaos on Twitter

It's been a busy couple of months on Twitter since Musk's arrival on the scene. In the last week alone, the company deployed and quickly receded a policy that prohibited links and identifiers to other social networks such as Facebook, Instagram and Mastadon. The company also launched blue for business plan that allows organizations to identify their affiliated brands and employees with an additional badge.

Elsewhere, Elon Musk conducted a poll asking people if he should step down as CEO, and 57% of users voted "Yes". A few days later, Musk tweeted: โ€œI will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone dumb enough to take the job! After that, I'll just run the software and server teams."

In a Twitter space on Tuesday night, Musk defended his drastic cost-cutting antics and revamp of the payment plan in the company. He said if it weren't for these measures, Twitter would have run into negative cash flow for the next year.
