Fernรกndez, who will participate in the Indaba Investment in Africa Mining 2024 Conference in Cape Town, South Africa. Undersecretary Fernรกndez will discuss US energy policy and priorities and the importance of the African mining sector in its connection to the broader international economy. Undersecretary Fernรกndez will also address the progress of the Mineral Safety Partnership (MSP), an initiative to strengthen critical mineral supply chains. After brief opening remarks, Undersecretary Fernรกndez will answer questions from participating journalists.

Jose W. Fernandez
Undersecretary of Economic Growth, Energy and Environment
Josรฉ W. Fernรกndez was confirmed by the Senate as Undersecretary of Economic Growth, Energy and Environment on August 6, 2021. He directs the offices and offices of the State Department that are at the center of the efforts of the Biden-Harris Administration about climate change. , clean energy, health, supply chain security and other economic priorities. Undersecretary Fernรกndez is also alternate governor of the United States before the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Inter-American Development Bank. From 2009 to 2013, he served as Under Secretary of State for Economic, Energy and Business Affairs, one of the offices he now oversees.
Prior to his most recent appointment at the State Department, Undersecretary Fernรกndez was a partner at Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP in New York. His practice focused on mergers, acquisitions and finance in Europe and emerging markets, advising U.S. and foreign clients in the telecommunications, energy, water, banking and consumer industries.
