US-based cryptocurrency exchange Gemini to open engineering hub in India

Gemini, the US-based crypto exchange, will set up an engineering center in India and has appointed its global CTO Pravjit Tiwana as CEO of Asia-Pacific.

The planned center in Gurgaon, India, will be the company's largest after the US, Tiwana said in a blog post.

Apart from India, Gemini also said on Thursday that it will expand a team in Singapore as part of the goal of seeking growth in Asia.

Gemini's decision to set up an engineering center in India is similar to that of rival Coinbase, which followed suit last year.

While India offers a large pool of talented engineers, the country has been hostile towards the broader crypto sector.

Billionaires Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss have dipped into their own pockets to support Gemini, which has faced numerous setbacks during a year-long recession in digital assets.
