According to US Department of Justice sources on January 26, international law enforcement groups dismantled the infamous Hive cryptocurrency ransomware gang and recovered more than 300 decryption keys for victims since July 2022. The officials raise the example of an incident in which a Hive ransomware attack on a Louisiana hospital was thwarted by police, saving the victim from paying a $3 million ransom.
The ghost servers were reportedly seized Wednesday night in an international law enforcement effort to track ransom payments, return them to victims and take down network infrastructure. The organization had been infiltrated by undercover agents since July 2022.
