This was the dramatic scene in a field in Churchdown when a main water pipe burst this morning.

It meant that thousands of people were without water via the M5 at Cheltenham, forcing schools to close.

Families had to get kids ready for school with little or no water when the taps ran dry.

Severn trent identified the source of the leak as coming from a field on the edge of the village, on Brookfield Road, across from the Chosen Hill RFC rugby field.

Engineers gathered at the site in an attempt to stop the leak and restore water supplies.

At the scene of the leak, dogs frolicked in the water, causing a torrent of water to rush towards the M5.

Several Severn Trent vehicles and personnel were on the scene and were hoping to restore supplies shortly.
