WATCH: Spectacular torrent of water at popular waterfall in Ireland as river levels jump

Heavy out-of-season rain in July has created a spectacular waterfall at Slieve Blooms in Glenbarrow.

Visitors to the Laois beauty spot captured winter-like flows of water at the falls on July 15. See below the video tweeted by Kim Timlin who said the Barrow River was in full flow.

The Public Works Offices publish river levels in real time online. It showed the level at the Borness gauging point on the River Barrow near Mountmellick jumping over a meter to nearly 1.5 meters between 14 and 16 July.

The OPW reported that the Barrow level in Portlarington increased fivefold between July 14 and 16, when the level in the town of Laois Offaly peaked at almost 1.8 meters. This is less than one meter from the mean flood level for the city of 2.4 meters.

Met ร‰ireann's agriculture section said rainfall amounts over the past seven days were well above normal across the country, at between 2.5 and 5.5 times the average for the time of year on record.

The largest deviation from normal was recorded not far from Laois in Oak Park Co. Carlow, where 71.4mm was recorded, about 5.5 times the average.

No big improvements are on the cards for next week with more showers and squalls with wetter-than-average conditions expected in most areas.

Met ร‰ireann advises people to expect between 20 and 50mm in general, which is one to three times the normal amount.

Met ร‰ireann's national outlook says it will remain unsettled or changeable with temperatures a bit below average for the time of year.
