When mini heatwave will hit Teesside โ€“ after area has been hit by heavy rain

Hopes for another fall heat wave starting Tuesday have risen as Hurricane Larry and "south latitude winds" are expected to trigger a heat wave in the coming days.

However, before the sun rises, Teesside can expect a disturbing torrent of rain and possible thunderstorms.

A yellow rain warning was issued for Tuesday, prelude to highs of 20 ยฐ C forecast for later in the week.

Monday will see rain across much of the UK but it should remain dry but overloaded around the Tees Valley.

The Met Office has forecast temperatures of 17 ยฐ C for Tuesday in Teesside, and the yellow rain warning was also issued.

According to meteorological experts, there is a possibility that homes and businesses will be flooded and transport services "will probably be affected".

By Wednesday and Thursday, the weather will improve, reaching a possible 20 ยฐ C.

Meanwhile, other parts of the north are set to be hotter than 23C in Faro, in Portugal's Algarve.

Talking about climate for next week, ex BBC and Meteorological office Forecaster John Hammond of Weathertrending said: "With Larry's energy beam near Iceland, the winds from the southern latitudes could send the mercury out in the mid-20s, just like last week.

"There was remarkable warmth last week, and some may get another good time after a bad August."

Hurricane Larry made landfall in Canada on Saturday, but the energy and heat from the storm are having a ripple effect elsewhere.

The Met Office forecast explained: "As former Hurricane Larry approaches Iceland, we are dragging ourselves into warmer weather starting Tuesday.

"On Mondays and Tuesdays it rains, but there are also spells of sun, and many regions dry up on Wednesdays and Thursdays with spells of sun.

"Friday has a streak of rain in many areas, but over the weekend and beyond there is a sign of mostly good and dry weather in the south and east, with near-average temperatures."

Meteorological Office forecaster Marco Petagna added: "Our climate has been very warm recently, and temperatures between 20 and 20 degrees Celsius are still a few degrees above average."
