With snow here, so are snowmobilers

BARNES CORNERS, N.Y. (WWNY) โ€“ This week's torrent of snow is bringing snowmobilers to Tug Hill and putting smiles on the faces of business owners.

Brian Deiter lives in Pennsylvania, but he was up north on Friday, ready to hit the trails.

โ€œYou do it for the thrill, absolutely,โ€ Deiter said. "As soon as it starts snowing, you have to be available to go up."

And when the trails turn white. Trisha Garvin. The owner of โ€œTuggersโ€ restaurant on Route 177 sees green.

"It's a great source of income, it gets us through the entire year and we look forward to it every season," Garvin said.

Tuggers is ready. With extra food delivered and extra staff, they are ready to handle the increased volume of customers, inside and out.

"Our guys are plowing and shoveling snow and that's a big job," Garvin said.

While December is the start of Tuggers' busiest season, it is typically slow at first.

"People do their own thing during the holidays and if there's no snow, there's no people around," Garvin said.

But now that the holidays and the bare grass of December are over, snowmobilers and businesses alike are looking forward to a long stretch of snow and cold.

"We need more cold weather, so hopefully it will stick around for a while," Dieter said.
