Ericsson creates new federal group focused on 5G

Ericsson has created a federal group to deliver 5G-enabled digital transformation solutions across government.

Christopher Ling will lead the new unit and joins Ericsson from Booz Allen Hamilton, where he worked for nearly 30 years and was most recently executive vice president and group leader for the company's national security business.

Federal agencies consider 5G critical to the adoption of other commercial technologies.

โ€œConnecting people, businesses and national security depends on secure, reliable and resilient 5G infrastructure,โ€ said Yossi Cohen, president and CEO of Ericsson North America.

Ericsson is involved in existing projects with the US government, such as the Department of Defense, where it provides the basis for multiple 5G prototype deployments.

The unit now led by Ling will be known as Ericsson Federal Technologies Group and will offer advisory services to federal agencies designing highly integrated, secure networking solutions. The unit will also work with systems integrators to analyze requirements.

Ericsson is also working toward the eventual 6G protocol and has partnerships with both the National Science Foundation's Center for Advanced Wireless Research and the CTIA wireless association.
